LMS 14217. A Manson 4-4-0 336 Class built for Glasgow & South Western Railway as 350, renumbered 364 in 1919, it became part of the LMS on grouping in 1923. Built in 1899, this was one of Manson's 'Greenock Bogies', so called because it built for the steep grades on the Greenock (Princes Pier) line. Seen here departing St Enoch's station, possibly in the late 1920's with a service for Renfrew (see route marker). 41131. A Fowler 4-4-0 Compound at Greenock Ldyburn shed on 19th August 1950. It was built in 1926 for the LMS, and it was classed as a Class 4P-A and was numbered 1131. 253013 and 253017 at Paddington in 1977 on Western region Inter-City services. Originally classed as a Class 253 DEMU by BR (the Class 254 was the HST on the East coast services), this comprised power cars 43026 and 43027 (for 253013), and 43034 and 43035 (for 253017). The Class 253 was later dropped in favour of Class 43 because two power cars carried the same 'set number', and problems arose when for servicing reasons different units were used on a train, which would then display a different number at each end. 43026, 43027, 43034 and 43035 all currently operate with First Great Western. GSWR 253. A Manson Class 240 4-4-0 of Glasgow & South Western Railway. It was renumbered 388 in 1919, and on grouping became LMS 14260. It was built in 1905 and rebuilt in 1920. LMS withdrew the loco in 1934. Photograph taken by H. Gordon Tidey, and picture taken from a print published some time after the pictures was taken. (H. CR 123. A Drummond 123 Class 4-2-2 of Caledonian Railway. Built in 1886 for the Caledonain Railway as an exhibition locomotive for the Edinburgh International Exhibition where it won a gold medal. It went onto the duplicate list in 1914 and was renumbered 1123, and became LMS 14010 on grouping and was classed by LMS as Class 1P. The engine was withdrawn in 1935 by the LMS for preservation, and in the 1950's and 60's was re-avtivated by BR for running passenger excursions. The engine now resides in the Glasgow Museum of Transport and has the destinction of being one of the last 4-2-2 locomotive built in the 19th Century.
