254007 at York on an East Coast Inter-City service. Originally classed as a Class 254 DEMU by BR (the Class 253 was the HST on the Western region services), this comprised power cars 43068 and 43069. The Class 254 was later dropped in favour of Class 43 because two power cars carried the same 'set number', and problems arose when for servicing reasons different units were used on a train, which would then display a different number at each end. 43068 currently operates with Grand Central, and 43069 operates with First Great Western.
